Scenario Based Training

Overview

As an Instructional Designer, you may face time constraints. No matter what tools you use to create a training module, you can make it engaging in any platform you choose or what is available to you. I created this module in three different ways.

I created the original scenario-based training module in Articulate Rise. Which I find easy to use and a quick tool to learn and easy to use when you have time constraints. The ask for this assignment for a graduate class I was in was to add additional branching to the original module. I decided to continue this module in Articulate Storyline, where I built out additional scenarios to the original module.

As I have been building my skills for the last year and using other tools, I wanted to redo this module and use Vyond and  Articulate storyline to make the module more engaging. This did take additional time to build out the video portion in Vyond.

I wanted to show all three of these examples in my portfolio because I believe that you can build an engaging learning experience no matter the tools you use.

Audience

My audience is any new or current Instuctustional Designers wanting to storyboard their courses or videos.

Responsibilities

I was responsible for designing the script, storyboard, module, and supporting documents.

Tools Used

Articulate Rise and Storyline, Adobe Illustrator, WellSaid Labs, Figma, Vyond

Articulate Rise

I developed this scenario-based eLearning concept project for those who what to learn more about job interview questions and how to answer them. Scenario-based learning allows the learner to take risks and make mistakes without the concerns of doing in an actual interview. This was done in Articulate Rise using the scenario template block in rise.

Articulate Storyline

I used the scenario-based module from Articulate Rise to help me develop this model in Storyline. I used Storyline instead of Rise because I added additional questions and created an interview at the end. The interview at the end contained advanced variables to send the learner to the wrong slide if they missed one question and a correct slide if they got all questions right.

Articulate Storyline and Vyond

I developed this scenario-based eLearning concept project for those who what to learn more about job interview questions and how to answer them. I used the scenario-based module I created in Storyline as a base. I used the same audio and script. I changed the graphics in this example and used Vyond for the animation.

Design Process

Script

I created a script to help guide me on what I wanted each audio clip would say on the slide or scene. This also helped me to create a scenario map and a storyboard.

Scenario-Based Map

I used Figma to map out what my scenario-based training would look like. This helped me visualize where each question and answer would lead to.

Storyboard

I used a visual storyboard in PowerPoint, separated interactive slides, and branched scenes together in the sections.
